In commemoration of Women’s History Month, I have asked the staff at Bedlam Law to share a story of a woman, or women, who inspire them. As women, we lead such busy lives. Our daily schedules are packed full of appointments, carpools, kids’ activities, cooking, cleaning, etc. We don’t often enough take the time to uplift and empower other women in our lives as we should. Not because we do not appreciate or admire them, but because “life” happens. So today, I would like to take the time to tell you about the women who inspire Paulette Rice, a Paralegal at Bedlam Law. Paulette has many women she admires. But the two she admires the most are Mother Teresa of Calcutta & her Grandmother. Below , Paulette tells us the reasons that these women are her inspiration.
Mother Teresa because she was such a strong, yet humble woman. She stuck to her beliefs and stood against society. She gave us a true example of “love your neighbor.” She gave dignity to the poorest of the poor in their final hours and made them feel loved and worthy. She brought attention to a very serious and growing problem in India, the poor. When she won the Nobel Prize, she took the money and gave it to the poor. She did not demand respect or title, she earned it. She has taught me to accept the role that God has given me and use it to do great things for God. Her words of inspiration are always uplifting.
I admire my Grandmother in so many ways. She was a woman of deep faith in God and Jesus Christ. She managed to raise nine children during the depression and on a miner’s wage. She only had an eighth-grade education, but she was the smartest woman I ever knew. She lived her life by faith and common sense. She one time told me she didn’t like computers, but you better learn them if you’re going to live in this world. She also is the reason I am so active in my church. It was her way of giving back to God, for what he had given to her. She was always available to help. She lived a simple life and didn’t need much. Today, some of the things I do I learned from her.
